Best of 2023 Linking Party from Quilting & Learning

I'm so glad that Cheryl of Meadow Mist is hosting this great party again. I looked at my posts, and I've been participating since 2016. Not bad since it looks like I only missed her first year. Thanks Cheryl

Planning for 2023 from Quilting & Learning

Thank you Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl for hosting this great linking party again this year. Hopefully it will help keep me focused.

Last year I minimized my plans for 2022. Of course it didn't all get done but that's ok because that's what planning is all about. For 2023, I'm keeping it as simple and general as possible.

My intention for 2023: learn by playing, with mindfulness and contentment

Quilts

This category is more specific because of my promises to get these projects done. I'm very hopeful of completing these and they'll provide great ...

Sun flames, swirls and rail fence blocks from Quilting & Learning

Hello and welcome to Week 410 of Free Motion Mavericks. I'm glad that you stopped by. I free motion quilted (FMQ) some flames and swirls to the sun in the middle of the Version 2.0 quilt.

Flames and Swirls

Last week I finished the Free Motion Mavericks post by showing you the Sun that I stitched with the walking foot in the middle blue section of the quilt. The section is not quite finished but I did add flames extending between the sun's points and then swirls in the middle of the sun.

This first picture isn ...

First Nation Space on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 386 of the Free Motion Mavericks linking party. I'm back with some free motion quilting (FMQ) on my son's Version 2.0 quilt. This week I want to honour his First Nation's ancestry in a First Nation Space on his quilt.

FMQ a Dream Catcher

The first symbol that comes to my mind is the dream catcher. Our home has many of them, in many sizes, that protect our dreams

More on Version 2.0 with Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 376 of our Free Motion Mavericks linking party. I hope that spring is in the air if you're on this end of the Earth!

Sports section finished

The blue sports stripe is done! You can see a pretty good picture below. You will notice that there is still tracing paper left on the snowshoes. It will come off soon but it's very tedious work when the FMQ is so close together. It came off well for the canoe.

Finishing up the sports stripe

Here's a great image from the back. You can see that ...

Filling in a couple of strips on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 370 of Free Motion Mavericks. I managed to put in a few hours of Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) on my son's Version 2.0 quilt this week.

Bird feathers and playing cards

This week I choose to FMQ a couple of the easier strips on my son's quilt. This first one is a strip of bird feathers. They are a part of the quilt that symbolise his First Nation ancestry. It was difficult to FMQ plain bird feathers because as a quilter, feathers are always so much more elaborate.

FMQ Bird feathers

In theory the ...

Weather and nature on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Muv's post this week has been delayed due to the weather! Check back later please.

Welcome to week 368 of Free Motion Mavericks. Since the weather is all over the place, I thought that I would tackle some weather images as well as keep heading east on Version 2.0.

FMQ all kinds of weather

In my son's first quilt, my mother had quilted one of the strips of red fabric with rainbows. This was one of the designs that celebrate nature.

As well as rainbows, I wanted to add different types of weather onto that strip. I ...

FMQ Lake Louise on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 366 of Free Motion Mavericks. If you're looking for the Polar Bear Blog Hop, click here

I'm still working on free motion quilting (FMQ) the tan stripe with Canadian nature scenes from coast to coast. Our stop today is Lake Louise in Alberta. It's an incredibly beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, and is also part of Banff National Park.

FMQ Lake Louise

It's rather difficult to take pictures of the quilting so far since it's all tan on tan. Below you can see the lake, mountains and trees. There's even an ...
